NOBLE ROT BAR
Mayfair, UK
Cosy, comfortable and relaxed”
Hendra were asked to rework the design of an existing dining room, to include a new bar, with updated lighting, artwork and finishes. The scheme needed to elevate but also form a feeling of continuation from the retained adjacent dining areas, with an emphasis on creating a comfortable and convivial feeling.
DESIGN INSPIRATION
The existing historical panelling informed the new bar and back bar, to create a cosy, unobtrusive feel. The owners’ varied collected of artworks, both commissioned and antique, adorn the walls, with low level lighting to envelop diners. We worked with a Sussex forge to create gnarly vine brackets, as a subtle nod to Noble Rot’s rarified yet accessible wine lists.
BUILDING CONTEXT
Sat on the corner of the hidden square of Shepherd Market, this Georgian style building was constructed in around 1740. The infamous Running Horse pub occupied the site from the mid 1800’s for over a hundred years, before being forced to close due to landlord infraction. The interior retains many original features such as its winding staircases and timber panelling.
